William H. “Bill” Wierman, 86, of Hanover, loving husband of Mary (Wise) Wierman, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at home surrounded by his family.
Born on Thursday, February 2, 1939 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Roland Francis Wierman and Josephine C. (Carbaugh) Wierman. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Bealing and Nina Rider; his brother, Richard Wierman; a granddaughter, Amanda Sneeringer; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Lawrence.
A 1958 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, Bill later received an Associate’s Degree from York College. He was a retired employee of Hanover Foods, where he had worked for more than 40 years without missing a day’s work. After his retirement, Bill worked as a dedicated funeral assistant with Panebaker Funeral Home for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was an adept storyteller. He had a great passion for going to the beach and spending time with his grandchildren, going to all their functions. Moreover, Bill will be remembered for his love of Notre Dame sports.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Bill is survived by a daughter, Ann Wierman; a son, Billy Wierman, both of Hanover; two sisters, Rosemary Krepps and her husband, Francis, of Hanover and Sister Ann Marie Wierman, SSJ of McSherrystown; a granddaughter, Ashley Mayr and her husband, Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Connor Sneeringer and Hadley and Harlow Mayr; a sister-in-law, Susan Wierman; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by The Rev. Michael Rothan. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 6 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway in Hanover and at the church one hour prior to the Mass. A prayer service will be held at 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Road, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the Hanover Council of Churches, 136 Carlisle Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
