Virginia P. “Ginny” Conant passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025 at home with family by her side; she was 94 years old.
Born on October 5, 1930, Ginny was the only child of George and Marian Phillips. While growing up in Drexel Hill, Pa, Ginny always said she was spoiled with a very blessed childhood. She graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1948 and married her high school sweetheart, Roger K. “Skip” Conant, on February 3, 1951. Ginny and Skip settled in Springfield, Delaware County in 1953 and remained in the same home for their entire married life.
Together, Skip and Ginny raised five daughters: Betsy Jordan (Michael), Cathleen Conant, Carol Smith (Brian), Nancy Sheppard (Steven) and Christine Gross (Joshua). Ginny was preceded in death by Skip, her daughter, Carol, and her son-in-law, Steve. She is survived by four daughters, ten grandchildren: Kim Craddock, Daniel Smith, Michael Bucciarelli, Roman Wlodarczyk, Scott Sheppard, Brian Sheppard, Jacob Gross, Jonah Gross, Levi Gross, Zachary Gross, and six great-grandchildren.
Ginny was an active member of Drexel Hill Baptist Church for many decades and joined Springfield Baptist Church in the late 1980s. At both churches, Ginny sang in the choir and was a soloist at many weddings and funerals with her beautiful soprano voice. She also sang with the Delaware County Choral Society. Ginny taught preschool at Drexel Hill Baptist Nursery School for over twenty years.
Ginny moved to Hanover, PA in 2018 to live with her daughter, Cathy.
She loved being with family, flower gardening, going to Ocean City, NJ every summer, and visiting the family cabin in the mountains of Pennsylvania (Bellasylva). Ginny was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and especially loved her Phillies – she was even kissed by the Philly Phanatic!
Ginny will be remembered for her beautiful voice, a kind spirit, her hospitality, a fun-loving nature, her love of family and friends, and her devotion to her Lord.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 11:00 am at First Church of Hanover, 200 Frederick St., Hanover, PA 17331. Interment will take place at Bellasylva Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Church of Hanover at the address above.
