Shirley Ann Hess

Shirley Ann Hess, 88, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.

Born on Friday, December 18, 1936 in Upperco, MD, she was a daughter of the late Edward Earl Dietz and Beulah Marie Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Donald B. Hess, who died in 2011; and seven siblings, Robert “Bobby” Dietz, Loretta “Rett” Reed, Edward “Sonny” Dietz, William “gimpy” Dietz, Marie Follett, Joyce “Joy” Harman, and Evelyn “Susie” Bosley.

Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Reisterstown High School and was a member of St. Paul's (Dubs) Union Church. She enjoyed sewing, roller skating, and loved to bake and cook. Shirley had immense pride for her garden and was a big fan of the Statler Brothers. Most of all she loved to dote on her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two children, Donald T. Hess, of York, and Stephanie M. Brennan and her husband, Ted, of Keedysville, MD; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Butch and Donnie Dietz.

A service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A viewing will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Dubs Union Church Cemetery.
