Shanon R. Toal, Sr., 82, of York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at Concordia at SpiriTrust Utz Terrace.

Born on Wednesday, September 1, 1943 in Hanover, he was a son of the late C. Raymond and Nadine (Rickrode) Toal. A 1961 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, Shanon was a welder by trade. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Hawk Gunning Club in York. He was a collector of many things; including toy cars, trucks & trains, guns, knives & swords, elephants, coins and many other items. Shanon raced go-karts from the 1960’s to the 1990’s, a tradition that was shared and enjoyed for the next two generations. He traveled to several states in support of his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also enjoyed attending many oyster and shrimp feeds, as well as daily meals from Jackie B’s Restaurant & Lounge in York.

Survivors include three children, Shanon R. Toal, Jr. and his companion, Donna Neiderer, of Hanover, Neil P. Toal and his fiancée, Patricia Bowman, of New Oxford, and Kathy Toal-Philipsen and her husband, Chris Mumma, of Hanover; grandchildren Cameron Philipsen and his fiancée, Gabriella Jenkins, of Frisco, TX, Jacob Toal of Hanover, and Kaitlyn (Philipsen) Sacchetti and her husband, Nico, of Duryea, PA; and a brother, Jeffrey Toal of McSherrystown. Shanon was predeceased by his companion Sheila Drayden in 2004.

The family will receive friends at a viewing from 9am-10:30am on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover. Burial will be held privately in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Shanon Toal, Jr., Neil Toal, Chris Mumma, Cameron Philipsen, Jacob Toal, Nico Sacchetti.
