Ronald J. Funk, 78, of Hanover, loving husband of Karen C. (Poist) Funk, entered into God’s eternal care on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at his home.
Born on Thursday, August 15, 1946 in New Oxford, he was a son of the late Leo J. and Anna G. (Bisker) Funk. Ron was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam era. He later retired from the PH Glatfelter Company after 40 years of service.
Ron was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 14865, the Father Cyril J. Allwein Assembly Fourth Degree, Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, and was a life member of the McSherrystown Home Association. In his youth, he achieved the distinguished Eagle Scout. In his lifetime, he served in the following capacities: Webelos Scout Leader, Bingo Chairman, past president of the Glatfelter Quarter Century Club, past president of the St. Vincent de Paul School Board, Core Committee of the Pot of Gold Program, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 871 and 14865, First District Deputy, former Financial Secretary of the Knights of Columbus Council 14865, former Master of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Pennsylvania West District, and former Web Master PA State Council Knights of Columbus.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 58 years, are three children, Matthew J. Funk, Gabriel D. Funk and wife, Deb, all of Hanover, and Timothy A. Funk and wife, Becky, of East Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Savannah, Sean, Alexia, Kylee, Ty and Logan; three great-grandchildren, Anna Leigh, Autumne Mae and Asher; a brother, Anthony Funk and wife, Darlene, of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, his twin brother Donald, who died at birth, Margaret Eyler, Gerald Funk and Patricia Warthen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Church by The Rev. Michael P. Reid. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends at viewings to be held from 6 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway in Hanover and at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover, PA 17331.
