Richard L. Huff, 94, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Monday, September 8, 2025 at UPMC Hanover.
Born on Sunday, November 9, 1930 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Raymond Earl Huff, Sr. and Corinne M. Kuhn Huff. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Anna McMaster Huff, to whom he was married for 25 years and died in 1979; his second wife, Jean E. Conrad Huff to whom he was married 38 years and died in 2020; two sisters, Theresa Walter and Christine Rill; a brother, Raymond Huff, Jr.; a son-in-law, Andrew Farley; and a step-son, Brian Conrad. A 1949 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, he served with the US Army during the Korean War. Richard was the owner and operator of Huff’s Barber Shop in Hanover for many years and had also been employed by Key Real Estate.
Richard was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus Council #871, served as usher on Saturday evening mass until he couldn't and helped run bingo and the $100 Dinner fundraisers for many years. He was also a member of the Catholic War Vets #1342, the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14, and was a lifetime member of the Hanover VFW Post #2506 and the Hanover Eagle Fire Company #2.
Known for his famous cheesecakes and by many nicknames, Richard would also answer to “Dad”, “Pappy Rich”, “Huffy”, “Dick”, and “Honey Boy”. He loved his ice cream, fireworks, and going to parades. He enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and going to family and class reunions. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping, hunting, boating and traveling. His goal was to live until 100 years of age to be on the Smucker's Jelly Jar but the Lord had a different plan.
Survivors include six children, Jeanne Swain of Hampstead, MD, Judith (Kevin) Starner of Hanover, Allen (Becky Rice) Huff of Spring Grove, Jane Warner, Jill (Carl) King and Janice Farley, all of Hanover; four step-children, David J. Conrad, Susan E. (Jeff) Gross, all of McSherrystown, Kenneth P. Conrad, and Scott (Pam) Conrad, all of Hanover; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held at the church from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
