Nancy J. Couzins

Nancy J. (Smith) Couzins, 85, of New Oxford, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at the home of her son in New Oxford.

Born on Wednesday, April 30, 1941 in Ponca City, OK, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe T. and Clara (Miles) Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Col. Richard D. Couzins, USAF Retired, who died in 2024; a daughter, Keri B. Beam; and a brother, Gregory P. Smith. A woman of strong Christian beliefs, Nancy was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Westminster, MD where she sang in the church choir. Known for her cooking from scratch and artistic abilities, she enjoyed doing cross-stitch and crafts of all types. Above all, Nancy was totally devoted to her family.

Survivors include three sons, David Couzins and his wife, Gilda, Christopher Couzins and his wife, Annette, and Todd Couzins; nine grandchildren, Sara, Caleb, Kiley and her husband, Carlos, Kevin and his wife, Allison, Nathan and his wife, Nicole, Jonathan, Emily and her husband, Christian, Nicholas and Melissa; and a great-grandson, Rowan, with a great-grandson and great-granddaughter on the way. 

A graveside service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at St. Paul’s (Dubs) Church Cemetery, 1958 Dubs Church Road in Hanover with Pastor C. Ray Shutt officiating. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6 to 8:00 PM Friday at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover.
