Mary A. Houser

Mary A. Houser, 87, of Hanover, lifelong companion of Burnell Groft, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2023 at Hanover Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on Monday, December 20, 1937 in Union Bridge, MD, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Leroy Houser and Alice Genevieve Finn Houser. She was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Houser; step-sons, Nelson and Tobias Groft; a brother, Robert Houser; and a sister, Rosetta Slagle.

Mary loved children and would babysit for as many as 12 children at a time. She was also retired from Snyder’s of Hanover after many years of service. She had a green thumb and took pleasure in gardening. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and BINGO, playing the lottery and going to casinos.

In addition to Burnell, she is survived by a son, Tim Houser and his wife, Deborah; a daughter, Trudy Funke and her husband, Charles; three grandchildren, Terry Houser, II and his wife, Tilyn, Kirby Houser and his wife, Krystal, and Jessica Kump and her husband, Chad; four great-grand children, Cameron, Chase and Callen Kump and Amelia Houser; and a brother, Glenn Houser.

A private service is being planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
