Marlin J. "Bud" Weber, Jr.

Marlin J. “Bud” Weber, Jr., 79, of Johnstown, PA, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025 in Hanover, following a battle with liver cancer.

Born on Monday, March 4, 1946 in Somerset, PA, he was a son of the late Marlin Jennings Weber, Sr. and Mary Ann Hoover Weber. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Gerard and Dorothy Lech and two brothers, Samuel and Marlin Jay “Buddy” Weber.

In 1962 and prior to his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. In 1964, he graduated from Conemaugh Township High School, where at that time, he was the only four-year letterman in wrestling. In 1965, he graduated from the Hospital Corpsman Training in Great Lakes, Michigan and then graduated from the Cardio-Pulmonary School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1967. He served during the Vietnam War on the hospital ship, the USS Sanctuary, returning to the mainland at Long Beach, California before being discharged and returning home to his strong parents in 1970. Shortly after, he met a good woman named Sharon Ellingsworth and they married a year later on July 17, 1971 at Scalp Level United Methodist Church. In 1974, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown with a Bachelor’s degree in History and a minor in Philosophy. He continued with the United States Navy Reserve for another 24 years, being honorably discharged in 1994. He began working for Sears & Roebuck, pumping gas in 1970 and worked through the ranks as an auto mechanic and assistant manager of the hardware division, retiring from his career after more than 30 years in 2002.

Very proud of his military service, he was a lifetime member of the Hollsopple VFW Post #8861 and the National Rifle Association. He loved to spend time with his family and looked forward to the yearly vacations to Virginia Beach during his military service. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting small game and deer, and duck pin bowling, a hobby which he shared with his wife. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a devoted NASCAR fan, having camped and traveled to every track on the East Coast. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Strong in his opinions, he was a great debater and passed that along to other members of his family.

In addition to Sharon, his wife of nearly 54 years, he is survived by two daughters, Desiree Noblett and her husband, Larry, and Danielle Mostoller and her husband, Derek, all of Hanover; a son, Grant Weber of Johnstown; four grandchildren, Delaney Julia “Bug” Mostoller, Hunter James Weber, Brianna Katherine Weber and Emmalee Renay Weber; a sister, Janet Freehling of Sarver, PA; a brother, James Weber and his wife, June, of Elizabethtown PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on July 29, 2025 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway in Hanover with the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard rendering military honors at 5:00PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM with The Rev. Dr. B. Michael Brossman officiating.
