Marie E. Jacoby Hockensmith, 77, of Hanover, beloved wife of Donald F. Hockensmith, entered into God’s eternal care on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Wellspan York Hospital.
Born on Monday, September 6, 1948 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Clifford R. and Ioma Little Neiderer. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Leonard and Betty Neiderer. A 1966 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, she had been employed with K & T Transportation, Sylvania Shoe and had owned and operated her own antique shop. Marie loved shopping for and finding antiques and listening to country music with her favorite band being Alabama. Two of her favorite songs were “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts and “Who Let the Dogs Out” by Baha Men. She will be remembered for her favorite sayings, “Love with all your heart” and Well, ain’t that stupid.” Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Parish.
In addition to her husband of two and a half years, she is survived by a son, Shane P. Jacoby and his fiancée, Stephanie Staub, of East Berlin; two step-grandchildren, Gage and Aliza Staub; two sisters, Ann Topper of McSherrystown and Helen Kagarise and her husband, John, of Montana; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear close friends, Laura and Randy Myers, Sue Flickinger and Wayne Hockensmith.
The family will receive friends at a viewing from 2 pm to 4 pm Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Panebaker Funeral Home, 311 Broadway, Hanover. Following cremation, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026 at Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover by The Rev. Dwight Schlaline. Burial will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery.
