Karen J. Gunsallus

Karen J. Gunsallus, 71, of Hanover, beloved wife of Charles L. Gunsallus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at her home.

Born on Monday, October 19, 1953 in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Russell E. and Joyce (Duke) Chewning. A graduate of Kenwood High School in Essex, Maryland, Karen was a former employee of the State of Maryland, having worked at the Rosewood Center for a number of years. After moving to Hanover, she was employed at the former Nell’s Market and at Wendy’s.

In addition to Charles, her husband of nearly 50 years, she is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Phillips and her husband, Chris, and Sarah Gunsallus; and a sister, Cheryl Ferger. Karen was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Phyllis D. Knapic; and a brother, Russell E. Chewning, Jr.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway in Hanover.
