Joanne E. Harner

Joanne E. Harner, 89, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at UPMC Hanover.

Born on Friday, January 8, 1937 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late G. Samuel and Norma (Derr) Harner. A 1954 graduate of Eichelberger High School, Joanne was an employee of the former Hanover Made Furniture and its successor Madison Square Furniture. She later did demonstrations for Weis Markets and other companies. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she was active with WELCA and the Senior Hang Out. She also enjoyed her Girls Night Out Club, the Plant It Earth Garden Club, and the Super Seniors at First Church of Hanover. In her spare time, she was a volunteer with PAL Lunch and was an avid gardener who loved working in her yard.

Joanne is survived by her sister, Thelma J. Hershey of Hanover; nieces and nephews, David Hershey of Hanover, George Hershey and his wife, Arleen, of Blue Bell, Jane Hershey and her husband, Joseph Mackrell, of Highland, MD and their son, Jonathan, and James Hershey and his partner, Tracy Beckmann of Eugene, OR; a great-niece, Stephanie Caprioli and her children, Emily and Matthew; and a great-nephew, Michael Hershey and his wife, Nicole, and their children, Ryan and Grace.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 30, 2026 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover with The Rev. Faye C. Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Littlestown.
