Joan Louise (Becker) Grim, 85, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, passed away at Hanover Hospital on October 6, 2025.
Born in Hanover on October 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Stuart and Sarah (Houser) Becker. Joan was a 1958 graduate of Hanover (Eichelberger) High School and a 1962 graduate of Shippensburg State College.
Joan dedicated more than 30 years of her life to education as a beloved English teacher at Spring Grove High School, where she inspired generations of students with her love of language and learning. Following her retirement from teaching, she continued to serve others through her work in customer service at M&T Bank for ten years, and later as the Director of Congregational Care at the First United Methodist Church of Hanover.
Faith and service were central to Joan’s life. She organized the community CROP Walk for many years, volunteered with the Hanover Hospital Emergency Department, VNA Hospice, the Hanover Council of Churches, and the PAL Lunch program in Hanover. She also led adult Bible studies and Sunday school classes, sharing her deep faith in Jesus Christ, her personal Savior, with others. At Homewood at Plum Creek, where she resided, Joan remained active in the Chapel and many community activities, continuing to encourage and uplift those around her.
Joan will be remembered for her kind and compassionate heart, her unwavering faith, and her lifelong dedication to helping others. Her legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gerald Grim; daughter Anne Parker and husband John of Chardon, Ohio; stepdaughters Lisa Lint and husband Kevin of Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania, and Cindy Grim of York, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Janna Mofeyisola (Owolabi), Jessica Wendlandt (Timothy), Tyler Raffensberger (Brittany), Morgan Lint, and Dylan Lint; and three cherished great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her sisters Judy Dutterer and Darlene Wisner, both of Hanover, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on October 25th at 11:00AM at Homewood Chapel at Plum Creek in Hanover.
