James F. Whitty

James F. Whitty, 90, of Cross Keys Village, died on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at The Brethren Home Community.

Born on Thursday, January 2, 1936 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Patrick and Anne Murphy Whitty. James was a 1954 graduate of the Brooklyn (NY) Preparatory School and later received his Master’s degree from St. John’s University in Queens. He was a mathematics teacher for 35 years, having taught at Brooklyn Preparatory School and the W. Tresper Clarke High School in Westbury, NY. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his daughter, Catherine Torgeson and her husband, Doug, of Conway, SC; a grandson, Patrick Whitty; and a great-granddaughter, River Whitty. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son, James Whitty; and a sister, Anne Sheldon.

Per his wishes, the will be no service.
