James L. Howard

James Lego Howard, 95, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at his home.

Born on Sunday, September 21, 1930 in Baltimore, he was a son of the late James and Ada (Lego) Howard. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Jeanette Howard, who died in 2016; and three children, James Howard, Carla Bopst, and Roberta McLain. James was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and enjoyed completing puzzles, watching sports and the news, and talking on the phone to his family.

Survivors include his two sons, G. Michael Howard and his wife, Jeannette, of Hanover, and Craig Howard and his wife, Tracy, of York; his son in law, Louis Bopst, of Eldersburg, MD; ten grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Inc., 311 Broadway, Hanover. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hanover with military honors being rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
