Harold G. Becker, 89, of McSherrystown, entered into the Lord's eternal care on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 with his daughters by his side.
Born September 6, 1936, in Codorus Twp, York Co., he was the son of the late Luther and Romaine (Miller) Becker.
He was preceded in death by his loving companion, Mae Unger, one sister, Anna Mae (Becker) Wonder, and brother, Raymond Becker.
Loved by many and known as Dad and Pappy by a special few, he is survived by two daughters, Angela (and husband Kenneth) Arey of Hanover and Melissa Imarhane of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren, Shawn Miller, Marissa Jones, Renee King, Heather Arey, Holly Brown and Hana Imarhane; and seven great-grandchildren, Rachael, Aubree and Leeah King, Josie Miller, Zora and Declan Brown, and Carson Tangye. And his companion's daughters, Betty Gwhana and Janet Strite of Hanover, Linda Cool of Fairfield, and sons, Terry Unger of York, and Stanley Unger of Hanover, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive him as well.
In his youth, he served in the US Army and was employed by Merlin Myers Construction for several decades. He was a proud 50-year member of the Laborers' International Union of North America.
There were few things he enjoyed more than playing bingo, putting puzzles together and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. He cherished the time shared with his loved ones, often over meals or phone calls, and best showed his affection by action, rather than words. He had a knack for helping a neighbor in need. He was thoughtful and generous, and meticulous in his selection of birthday cards that best expressed how deeply he cared.
He loved, was loved, and will continue on in our fond remembrance.
A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity for viewing will be Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM, and Friday, September 19, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, 311 Broadway in Hanover. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 19, 2025 at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating. Burial will follow in Marburg Memorial Gardens.
In honor of Harold's favorite "uniform", we invite you to wear your favorite plaid shirt, jeans and sneakers when attending either the viewing or the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a veteran's organization of the donor's choice.
