Earl Henry Hertz, Jr.

Earl Henry Hertz, Jr., 74, of Hanover, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 22, 2026 in Hanover, PA, the place he loved and called home.

Born on Thursday, April 24, 1952 in Baltimore, MD, he was the oldest child of the late Earl H. and Dorothy H. (O’Brien) Hertz, Sr., who raised their eight children on Baltimore Street in Hanover. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Hertz. Earl graduated from Hanover High School, and kept his high school letter throughout his life and held his old high school yearbooks in a place of honor. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Europe. He was employed at Tim Bar for several years.

Earl was a member of the Hanover Republican Club, the Harold H. Bair Post 14 American Legion and a life member of; the New Oxford Social Club, the Home Association of McSherrystown, the Hanover VFW Post 2506, the Amvets Post 22 and the Hanover Home Association.

Earl enjoyed making contact and chatting with old friends and former students from high school. He loved Penn State football and scheduled his fall Saturdays around the football schedule. He played golf and participated in exercise classes at the YMCA. He will be remembered as a respectful and compassionate man.

He is survived by siblings, Julie Bowers, Sue Krug, John Hertz, Linda Sanders, David Hertz and Ann Kress. Earl was a godfather to his nephew, Jason Hertz and an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews who he loved very much.

Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in Hanover with the Rev. Joseph F. Gotwalt officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
