A Tribute to Dr. Kathleen Lambe

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Dr. Kathleen Lambe, who was taken from us too soon. This memorial is a celebration of her life, legacy, and the profound impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Dr. Kathleen Lambe, 53, was born on Sunday, February 6, 1972, in Bayonne, NJ. She was the wife of Jon Becker of Hanover, the daughter of John Lambe and Sara Heeney Ellis, and the sister of Karyn Patterson (Emmett) and Danielle Sunderland (Sam). Raised in Upstate New York, she graduated from St. Ambrose School in Latham, NY, and Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY. Kathleen went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from York College. She soon found her calling as an educator and obtained a teaching certificate from Millersville University, as well as a Master’s degree in Education from McDaniel College. In true “Kathleen fashion,” her academic pursuits did not stop. She went on to obtain a Doctoral degree in Education from Immaculata University.

During her academic journey, she was committed to her roles as both teacher and principal. The beginning of this journey started at Hanover Middle School, where she was a fifth-grade teacher. She devoted herself to developing strong bonds with her students and tirelessly worked to engage them by making learning a fun experience. This was a common theme throughout her teaching career. She moved on to an administrative role in the South Western School District, first becoming Vice Principal at EHMMS and then Principal at Baresville Elementary School. Kathleen was always striving to advance her career and explore new arenas to do the work she was so passionate about. She took a risk and left the comfort of her small-town community and accepted a position at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. She was ecstatic when she was asked to join the faculty in their Education Department. Kathleen never hesitated to mention in conversation that she was a University professor. She truly loved working with her college students, providing guidance and support, and instilling her wisdom in the hearts and minds of future teachers. It was a tough decision for her to leave that position, but her longing to be close to her family and home ultimately prevailed. Kathleen decided to return to the classroom, first at EHMMS and then found her new home at Littlestown Area Middle School, where she taught 8th-grade Science. Teaching was not just a career for Kathleen but a passion of hers. She always fought for the underdog and wanted to make every voice heard, and if that were not possible, she would be their voice.

Not only was Kathleen admired and respected for her academic and professional excellence, but she was also highly regarded by her colleagues and friends, with whom she forged lifelong friendships. She will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, which was recognizable to all who knew her and echoed wherever she went. Kathleen loved being part of a team, collaborating and working together to find new, innovative ways to educate and meet the needs of her students.

Kathleen was a multifaceted individual with a wide range of interests that she pursued throughout her life. Her creativity made her a prolific writer; she wrote several articles that were considered for publication and enjoyed writing children’s literature. Kathleen loved to travel, dance, play trivia, and attend community events, plays, and concerts. Her appreciation for music spanned many genres, and she participated in numerous workshops to enhance her creative skills.

Kathleen’s life took a significant turn in July 2022 when she married Jon, with whom she would share the rest of her life. Kathleen knew Jon was a good soul who she loved dearly. It was clear to Kathleen that Jon was the “one” when he readily accepted Kathleen’s other love in her life, Lucy, her loyal, feisty, and over-protective dog. Lucy immediately took a liking to Jon, and as Kathleen had shared, she thought Lucy sometimes loved Jon more than her. That sealed the deal for Kathleen. In addition, Kathleen adored Jon’s son, Landon, as they would all meet weekly for dinner. They shared a common bond through their mutual love for teaching and, more importantly, the bond they shared in their love for Jon.

Kathleen’s spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her husband, parents, sisters, nephews, nieces, family members, friends, and colleagues will hold dear their memories of the happy times spent with Kathleen. These memories will serve as a source of comfort and a lasting reminder of the profound impact she had on all our lives.

Kathleen will be deeply missed, but her legacy will endure as a testament to the extraordinary person she was and remains in our hearts.

Kathleen had a great love and compassion for animals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathleen’s name to the Adams County SPCA (https://www.adamscountyspca.org/ ) The family will also be setting up an educational scholarship fund in her name at a later date.
