Deloris Jean Sergent

Deloris Jean Sergent, 92, of Hanover, PA, beloved wife of The Rev. Dr. Joe David Sergent died on Thursday, May 28, 2026 following a long illness. Born on Thursday, June 29, 1933 in Mauldin, WV, she was the daughter of the late Virgil J. Stanley and Alice G. (Grass) Stanley, and step-daughter of the late James W. Vesser. She was also preceded in death by a son, Mark James Sergent; and a brother, James Virgil Stanley.

A 1953 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV, Deloris was most fulfilled as the Homemaker for her family. Additionally, for several years she was an Oral Surgeon Assistant. Early in life, Deloris identified herself as a Christian, and was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church. She firmly believed that the love we see in Jesus is the hope of the world, and that it is the assurance of everlasting life in the eternity of God.

Deloris embodied the essence of nurturing care. She had a special gift for lovingly tending to the babies and children of her family, friends and community. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing, and loved to travel with her husband, visiting many countries overseas as well as places within the US. She delighted in spending time with her family and friends, and will be long remembered for her beautiful, radiant smile.

In addition to her husband of nearly 73 years, Deloris is survived by their daughter, Vera Jean Button and her husband, Barry, of Rockledge, Fl, their son, Joe David Sergent, II and his wife, MaryLynn, of Hanover, their son, Matthew Blair Sergent and his wife, Barbara, of Manassas, VA, and by their daugher, Celeste Jo Jackson and her husband, Rick, and his daughter, Haley, of New Market, MD, and by eight grandchildren; Christopher, James, Rachel, Nathan and Emily Sergent, Erica Lin Sergent-Mika, Alyssa and Richard Jackson, and by three great-grandchildren; Caelin, Adam and Caleb Sergent. Also, she is survived by a Nephew, Vaughn Stanley, of Maitland, Fl, and by Susan Muzon, life-partner of their deceased son, Mark Sergent.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on June 17, 2026 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 25 West Springettsbury Avenue York, PA 17403. The family will receive friends at the (church) one hour prior to the service.
