Carolyn A. Sager began her new life with Jesus on Oct. 12, 2025. She was born on August 5, 1950, the daughter of the late Melvin A. and Mary (Hoover) Nace, and was the beloved sister of the late Kay Altland. She was the sweet wife of Tom Sager for fifty-one years, and was lovingly known to him as Annie. They married on August 31, 1974.
Carolyn was a 1968 graduate of New Oxford High School. After school, she studied to become a dental assistant and spent well over forty years with Smiles on Broadway for Dr. David Reese and Dr. Andrew Reese. She gained a reputation as a hard-working and reliable employee. She was ever conscientious in her duties, and enjoyed spending her days with her coworker friends and building relationships with the many patients whom she met over the years.
While she was a very hard worker, learning early on how to drive tractors and help her daddy on the farm, there was little that she enjoyed more than taking trips and traveling. In fact, she traveled out west just this past summer, living life to its fullest even in the midst of illness. She loved going to the Outer Banks with dear friends, taking bus trips from Cross Keys Village, enjoying ski trips with church friends, and exploring the great out west. No trip was more special to her than the Nace Family Cape May vacation, which she started in 1974. To this day, over 5 decades later, this family vacation is as many as fifty strong. On vacations, she was always the first up in the morning--walking the beaches, looking for shells and other treasures, or taking pictures--just enjoying God’s beautiful creation.
Annie enjoyed golfing, but never took it so seriously that she couldn’t have fun. She was always thankful when her friends would get a foursome together for eighteen (or more!) at the Bridges. She looked forward to golf trips and spending time with her “Golf Girls.”
Carolyn and Tom have two lovely daughters: Abbie E. Sager, and Katie E. Reck (husband Peter). She absolutely adored her grandchildren: Caroline Sager, the late Jaxon Davis, and Cameron and Emilia Reck. She saw them as a continuation of the beautiful family she had created--and they all loved their Gigi. She passed down to them profound love, and demonstrated her faithful devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ, which is the greatest testament of her life.
Panebaker Funeral Home is handling necessary arrangements. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made to Carolyn’s favorite yearly charity, Operation Christmas Child (samaritanspurse.org).
There will be a time for friends and family to gather and reflect on Thursday, October 16, at Arise E. Free, 109 Flickinger Rd. Hanover, from 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Arise E. Free on Friday, October 17, at 10am. There will be a lunch reception to follow at the Cascade Banquet room at Hickory Falls, 110 Hickory Lane, 17331. At that time, we invite all guests to enjoy a round of mini golf, to honor Carolyn’s favorite past-time.
