Carole Sue (Amweg) Richter, 80, of Cross Keys Village passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Brethren Home Community.

Born on Tuesday, January 9, 1945, in Kenton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Willis F. and Olive (Juanita Gossard) Amweg. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Conrad B. Richter, a stepdaughter, Lisa Richter Heaton and her brother-in-law, Donald Hammer.

Carole was an honor graduate from Kenton High School in 1963 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Kenton Wildcat marching band and several other school organizations. She was a 4H member and won numerous ribbons for projects she entered in the Hardin County Ohio Fair. She was also a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Upon graduation from high school, Carole attended Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1967. She then moved to Oak Ridge TN where she was a Research Technician at the Oak Ridge Tennessee National Laboratory for many years. A subsequent move to Raleigh NC led her into the field of Electron Microscopy at North Carolina State University as an instructor. Carole was a member of the Microscopy Society of America and was a co-author of numerous scientific publications. In her spare time, she and her husband travelled extensively worldwide. One of their favorite adventures was going on safaris in Africa. She was an amateur photographer who won many awards for her work. When spending leisure time at home, Carole loved to cook, cross stitch and quilt.

Survivors include her sister, Bonnie Hammer of Keller, TX; and her brother, Rick (Lynnea) Amweg of Marengo, OH. She is also survived by nieces, Amy Hammer and Heather (Stephen) Zisler and their two children; nephews, Brian Hammer and his children, Jeremy (Christina) Amweg and their six children, and Jason (Emily) Amweg and their son. Carole has four stepdaughters, Jennifer Richter, Samantha (Kevin) Pack, Kate (Dick) Hull and Amy (Angie) Richter; ten step-grandchildren: Karl, Brennan, Ryan, Alex, Andrew, Tyler, Allie, Mad, Amy, and Ian as well as nine step-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

Following cremation, private services will be held in Kenton OH.
