Caralyn Mummert

Caralyn B. Mummert, 87, of Hanover, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at home with her daughter and great-granddaughter by her side.

Born on Sunday, January 29, 1939 in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Norman E. and Evelyn M. (Baker) Becker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard D. Mummert who died in 2000, her daughter, Melanie A. Leavitt, her sibling, N. Michael (Michelle) Becker and her great-granddaughter, Micaela G. Kastner.

Mrs. Mummert was a 1957 graduate of Eichelberger High School and a 1959 graduate of Marjorie Webster Junior College.

Caralyn spent several years working as a sales clerk at Sears and the The Bon-Ton in Hanover and most recently worked in the business office for the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church where she sang in the adult choir, served on the altar guild, and acted as a greeter, lector and former youth group advisor. Caralyn participated in a mission trip to Guatemala with her daughter and son-in-law in 2017. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Caralyn was an avid collector of Hummel figurines, Hallmark ornaments, and nativity scenes. She took great joy assembling various family tree murals to adorn her home over the years.

She is survived by her daughter, Rev. Stephanie K. Roth, wife of Donald of Reading, PA, her six grandchildren; Aimee, Lindsay, Aaron, Christopher, Ian, Samantha, her seven great-grandchildren; Kaylynn, Ethan, Nora, Avaleigh, Evelyn and Beatrice, and many other extended family members.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut Street, Hanover, PA. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the Panebaker Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, 311 Broadway, Hanover, PA and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will be held in Marburg Memorial Gardens.
