Arlene Leary Smith

Arlene Leary Smith, 83, of Glenville, beloved wife of Clinton Otis Smith, Sr., entered into her eternal rest on Friday, September 26, 2025.

Born on Saturday, March 28, 1942 in Baltimore, MD, she was a daughter of the late Edward George Leary and Marie Clarie Lynch Leary. Arlene was a 1960 graduate ofCatholic High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Clinton, after graduation. She spent many years raising six children and attending college courses. The family moved to Pennsylvania in 1992 where she spent many years working for the Boyd’s Collections and the Hanover Evening Sun. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was the #11 mug club member at Fat Bat Brewing Company. Arlene enjoyed parties with her extended family, gardening, and a great campfire. She will always be remembered as being the life of the party: she was the first one up to dance and the last one to leave.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Clinton Otis Smith, Sr. and their children and grandchildren: Maureen S. (David) Marcantoni with children, Briana (Matt) Alexander and Chelci (Nick) Chappelear, Cassandra “Sandy” (David) Bialek and children Samantha (Henry) Bodenstine, Casey (Brendan) Gibbons, and Brady (Pamela Polec) Bialek, Clinton “Boo” (Kristi) Otis Smith, Jr. and children, Kaylie and Brodie Smith, Gavin (Lauren) Smith and children, Mason, Gavinson, and Madeleine Smith, and twins Devin Smith and Kevin (Rebecca) Smith and children Cassidy Conover, Peyton Conover, and Karoline Smith. She treasured her time with her great grandchildren: William Bodenstine, Vivian Bodenstine, Isla Chappelear, James Gibbons, Navy Alexander, Luca Chappalear, Cora Gibbons, and Banks Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ronald, Donald, and Edward Leary, and a sister, Marita Shaw. Surviving siblings include Sheila (Dave) Gierisch, Carol Leary, Kenneth Leary, and Elaine (Larry) Williams. She is also survived by sister- in-law Judith (Donald) Leary, and Dennis (Marita) Shaw and many nieces and nephews.
