Anita Jo Klunk, 82, of Hanover, entered peacefully into God’s eternal care on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Homewood Living at Plum Creek.
Born on Friday, March 19, 1943 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Harold E. and Martha A. (Smith) Ditzler. A 1961 graduate of Delone Catholic High School, in 1964 she received her degree from the St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing, where she was president of her class. Anita spent her career as a Registered Nurse at Hanover General Hospital, where she was instrumental in developing the Cardiac Diagnostic Unit and served as Director of the cardiac diagnostic department. She worked the latter part of her career in cardiac rehabilitation, also at Hanover General.
Anita was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, beloved for her kindness and generous spirit. She deeply valued those who were close to her and always put them first.
Throughout her life she enjoyed vacationing with her family at the Outer Banks, where she would take walks on the beach and collect seashells. She also loved spending time with her siblings, with whom she shared a strong connection. She was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards with her friends at Homewood.
Anita always made those she cared about feel loved, and will be remembered for her graciousness and warmth.
Survivors include her two children, Michael Q. Klunk and Lynn A. Klunk and her husband, Neal Shaffer; one grandson, Justin M. Hagerman; five siblings, Margaret Zumbo, Benedict F. Ditzler, Madeline M. Small, Marie T. Saghy and Mary C. Clabaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Jo Klunk; and three sisters, Angela L. Lehman, Mildred C. Thomassy and Joan E. Kuhn.
Following cremation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00PM Monday, February 9, 2026 at St. Vincent dePaul Church in Hanover. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 220 Third Street, Hanover PA 17331.
