Aldo Notarmuzi, 100, of Hanover, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2025 at The Gardens at Gettysburg.
Born on Monday, January 26, 1925, he was a son of the late Albert and Angelina Giammarco Notarmuzi. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Joan DiPace Notarmuzi, who passed away in 2005.
Aldo was a veteran of World War II, serving with honor in the Army Air Corps, with a primary role as an airplane mechanic for B-17 bombers. After returning from service, Aldo was a garment worker in New York City, embodying the hard work and perseverance that characterized his generation. He also worked as an elevator operator, a job he held for many years.
Aldo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover. He was passionate about maintaining his physical well-being. He embraced resistance exercise and devoted time to his exercise bike, often pedaling five miles a day, keeping active until recently. In his younger years, he also enjoyed weightlifting.
In addition to his physical pursuits, Aldo enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep appreciation for watching movies, baseball, football and playing the piano, an activity that brought him happiness. Aldo enjoyed quiet moments spent on the porch, where he would read the newspaper. Throughout his life he enjoyed the good cooking of his wife and son-in-law, always pleasantly surprised by the 'magic plate' of food that was presented to him after he took a seat at the table.
Survivors include his daughter, Valerie Herman and her husband, Warren; and a grandson, Warren Vale Herman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5125 Grandview Road in Hanover. The family will receive friends at a viewing to be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
