Life Legacy

Donald F. Laurence, 65, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 29, 2012 following a courageous 2 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Katherine Bankert Laurence.

Born on August 22, 1947 in Hanover, he was a son of the late Benedict J. and Margaret Shorb Laurence.

A 1965 graduate of South Western High School, he was employed by ESAB of Hanover. An avid runner who ran daily, he completed two Marine Corps marathons and several half marathons. He was a voracious reader and crossword puzzle solver and an animal lover.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by a daughter, Shannon Baker and her husband, Doug of Hanover; a son, Gabe Laurence and his wife, Olivia of Lititz; six granddaughters, McKenna, Ella and Bryn Baker, Avery, Paige and Addisen Laurence; and two brothers, Ben Laurence and his wife, Christa and Fred Laurence and his wife, Kathi, all of Hanover.

Services will be private, however the family will be holding a memorial hike at Codorus State Park at 1:00 p.m., November 11, 2012. Hikers should enter the park at the Dubs Church Rd. camping entrance. Keep left when entering and drive to the amphitheater and playground area. There is ample parking. Family and friends are welcome. We will be hiking the Mary Ann Furnace Trail walking in from the back end. The hike is estimated at 2 1/2 miles. It will be all dirt and hilly trails. There will be a planned gathering afterwards.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Guthrie Memorial Library, 2 Library Place, Hanover, PA 17331 or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200
